Level 1 and 2 Start Sailing / Basic Skills

The aim of the course is to teach adults to a competent level enabling them to sail a boat safely leaving the shore, sail a triangular course and return to shore in a seamanlike manner. As well as basic boat handling techniques the course also includes sailing theory and background, simple meteorology, rigging and ropework. The course is run by an RYA Senior Instructor assisted by fellow instructors.
Successful candidates will receive an RYA certificate which is recognised throughout the world and may be required if you wish to hire a boat while on holiday.
Sail training will be in a variety of dinghies such as Toppers, Lasers, Picos and Wayfarers.
The course is usually run over a weekend in May each year.
Each evening, hot snacks are available from the Galley as well as refreshments from the bar.
As an added bonus Newtownards Sailing Club are offering a discounted rate for those who compete the course.

RYA Power Boat Training Level 1 and Level 2
These Courses are by arrangement, a minimum of three are required to run each course as the instrutor to student ratio is 1:3.
RYA Rescue Boat Training
Rescue Boat duties are an essential part of Yachting. Learn the proper methods to effect a rescue from an upturned boat or how to deal with an injured crewman. This course is run in conjunction with the Rescue Co-ordinator at N.S.C.
Childrens' Courses
Start Sailing Level 1
This course has been developed to provide the best introduction to Sailing. This program is recognised by the RYA and designed to comply with their strict safety rules and training methods.
This course provides a short introduction to sailing for novices. They will have a basic understanding of boat handling techniques and background. As a follow on to this course:
Basic Skills Level 2
On completion of this course, the succesful candidate will be safety conscious, have basic knowledge of sailing and be capable of sailing without an instructor on board in light winds.
(Both level 1 & 2 are combined in a 5 day course for £100)
All necessary equipment is provided for this course.

Windsurfing
Beginners From Spring to Autumn, Tuesday night is Beginners' night at the club.  With full rescue boat cover, all Beginners (and many Intermediates) are encouraged to go out and 'have a go'.  Lessons are available, (including for non-members) on demand.
And approximately every other Saturday morning there are further lessons, again open to non-members.

There will be 'Improver' Courses covering subjects such as Beach Starting, Harness Use, Footstraps and Water Starts
