Newtownards Sailing Club has a thriving band of around 70 windsurfers who sail regularly in the safe but interesting windsurfing conditions at the club.  The prevailing wind is on shore which makes for excellent safety while wave conditions can often be pretty good.  For beginners and intermediates, there is a bay beside the club with excellent shelter while learning the basics.   And when the tide is out, there is approximately half a mile of waist deep water which makes for easy practising when learning to waterstart or gybe!

The windsurfers keep in touch by e-mail, sometimes organising last minute mass sailings eg 2 days after Christmas. They also run holidays to warm and windy places such as Egypt in 2009.

BEGINNERS

From Spring to Autumn, Tuesday night is beginners night at the club. With full rescue boat cover, all beginners (and many intermediates) are encouraged to go out and have a go.  Lessons are available on demand, including for non-members.

Approximately every other Saturday morning there are further lessons, again open to non-members.  Call Patrick Lyner on 07803 908714 or check out the Learn to Windsurf Guide at the Club by Clicking Here.
The Club has the latest Beginners Boards thanks to a grant from the Sports Council.  This makes learning easier and a lot of fun.
