12/11/2024

GP14 Worlds 2024

18/8/2024

Congratulations to everybody who represented NSC at the 2024 GP14 World Championships at Plas Heli in Wales! Eighty five boats competed in the week long event, which concluded on Saturday.

Daniel Nelson, crewing for Ross Kearney from RNIYC, was in the 6th placed boat, and also took the Youth Crew award. Ross and Daniel were 2nd in 2 of the 8 races sailed, so right up at the sharp end! A brilliant 2nd in Bronze fleet (only 1 point behind 1st), and 27th overall, were Adam and Emily Torrens, who were closely followed by Stephen and Johnny (youngest crew competing?) Nelson in 28th. Curly Morris & Meg Tyrell were 39th, and whilst they had a couple of solid top twenty finishes, their discards were for a retirement and a DNC, that then then pushed them down the order somewhat. Finally in commendable 68th place overall, and the 4th placed all female crew, were Jennifer Bryce & Vivika Timmer. Well done to all!!

This  year's GP14 Championship of Ireland at NSC was one to remember with more 45 boats registered, representing over 20 clubs, and sailing on each of the 3 days allowed all 8 races to be completed. Thanks to all of our club members who pitched in, the race management team, our sponsors, and the visiting crews for making the event a great success!

2024 GP14 O'Tiarnaigh Challenge

23/5/2024

Brilliant results for NSC sailors at this year's GP14 O'Tiarnaigh Challenge held last weekend at Mullingar Sailing Club! Josh Porter & Sara Gowdy just missed out on the overall trophy with 2nd in Gold fleet, whilst Adam and Emily Torrens were Bronze fleet winners. In the Plate competition, Daniel Nelson, crewing for Royal North's Ross Kearney, was in the 2nd placed Gold boat & not to be left out, Jennifer Bryce and Vivaka Timmer took 2nd in Bronze! Well done to all!

2024 at NSC
A very happy new year from Newtownards Sailing Club - it promises to be a great one!
August 2024 marks 60 years since the opening of the club in 1964. A special event will be planned to celebrate the anniversary with all NSC members, family and friends.
In the meantime, there's plenty to keep us entertained on the water and in the clubhouse...

We're hosting the Irish Nationals!

NSC has been selected to host the GP14 Championship of Ireland 2024.

The three-day event will run on June 28th, 29th and 30th at Newtownards - and normally attracts around 40 boats.

NSC Sailing Secretary and Event Director Jennifer Bryce said: "I'm thrilled we are hosting the biggest event in the Irish GP sailing calendar. We expect to welcome around 80 sailors from across the island of Ireland, many of whom will want to bring their families along and camp on site.

"This will be a huge team effort to organise, from safety cover on the water to food and live music in the clubhouse - so the preparations start now!"

Volunteers will be needed to support in the clubhouse, around the slipway and on the water over the three days and in the lead up. If you can help, please email [email protected]

AUTUMN AT NSC

28/8/2023

GP14 Autumn Series
The Autumn Series begins this Sunday, 3rd September at Newtownards Sailing Club. It’s been a pretty frustrating summer for our sailors, so here’s hoping for more settled conditions and fair winds!

First gun is at 2.30pm with two short races each week, continuing until 12th November. The series is also open to non-members at no charge, so we hope to welcome a few visitors from the GP14 Ireland fleet for some competitive racing.

Any members, particularly those who have recently learnt to sail, who would like to race one of the club GP14 boats, please email GP14 Fleet Secretary Jennifer Bryce at [email protected]

RNLI BBQ
It doesn’t matter who’s in trouble or where they are, the RNLI’s volunteer lifeboat crews and lifeguards will answer the call to save everyone they can. And you can be their hero by joining us for our very own outdoor fundraiser this summer.

NSC are hosting a relaxed barbecue at the clubhouse on Sunday 24th September, from 3-6pm to raise funds – and perhaps a toast! – for our RNLI lifesavers. Please show your support and register here. Cost £10pp.
